Crew & Vessel

Captain William

William brings a lifetime of leadership to the helm, shaped by decades of public service as a retired Fire Chief and former City Manager. As a licensed USCG Captain holding ASA and IYT credentials, safety is his highest priority, whether navigating open water or tackling maintenance & repairs to keep Sea Ox in pristine condition.

He enjoys coastal cruising, but he is happiest on multi-day offshore passages. He is continuously working to sharpen his seamanship skills and plan the next sailing adventure. He also takes the lead on their YouTube channel @SeaOxSailing , documenting their experiences, one adventure at a time. For William, sailing is about the freedom of open water and sharing the journey with others.

Colleen

Colleen shares a love of sailing with William and her four legged sidekick, Scrappy. She has spent more than 33 years with the same credit union, so the dream of retirement is on the horizon. Balancing a long career ashore while looking ahead to the future, she brings steady support, thoughtful planning, and enthusiasm to every step of their journey toward full time cruising.

She enjoys coastal living, exploring new destinations, Texas country music, reading, and preparing for life aboard Sea Ox. Colleen loves spending time around the marina, joining in on relaxed day sails, and connecting with fellow cruisers along the coast. For Colleen, sailing is about embracing new experiences, meeting new people, and making lasting memories.

Scrappy

Scrappy might only weigh five pounds, but he is convinced he runs the show. As Colleen’s loyal companion, he makes sure everyone knows he is in charge, whether holding down the couch or joining the crew aboard Sea Ox. His authority is non-negotiable, although he remains open to bribery if cheese is part of the negotiation.

For Scrappy, life is about finding prime nap spots, catching a breeze in his fur, and enforcing the cheese tax. Above all, he reminds everyone that five pounds of attitude is more than enough to run the ship.

S/V Sea Ox

At the heart of our adventures is Sea Ox, a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 39i owner version designed by naval architect Marc Lombard. Built for coastal exploration & offshore passage making, the vessel blends seaworthy offshore performance with practical living space. The owners version layout provides comfort below deck, while the twin helm cockpit ensures responsive handling, clear visibility, and smooth shorthanded line control.

Under power, Sea Ox is driven by a 40 hp Yanmar diesel paired with a Bruntons Autoprop self propeller. Docking in tight slips is made easy with an bow thruster. Her sail plan features a Seldén in mast furling mainsail, a 117 percent furling genoa, and an electric winch to manage loads effortlessly. On the helm, navigation is centered around a Raymarine Axiom 12 display and Quantum radar. Meticulously refitted and maintained, Sea Ox serves as our passage maker, training platform, and floating home along the Texas coast and beyond.
